At 1656 hrs the SBFD responded to numerous reports of a brush fire and a structure fire in the Perris Hill area. First arriving units found a brush fire of approximately ½ and acre moving up the south aspect of Perris Hill towards homes on Monte Vista Ave. Additionally, there was also a structure fire in a vacant and boarded up apartment building on Hillside Dr.
A second alarm was requested and a simultaneous fire attack was started on the structure fire and the brush fire. Fire units as well as SBPD patrol units were positioned to take care of structure protection and evacuation on Monte Vista Ave.
The brush fire and the structure fire were contained in about 40 minutes and the two homes that were immediately threatened on Monte Vista did not sustain any damage due to the quick action from the SBFD and SBPD while protecting the threatened homes. The structure fire was incendiary and is currently under investigation.
IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT DUE TO THE EXCELLENT VEGETATION CLEARANCE BY THE HOMEOWNERS ON MONTE VISTA, IT MADE PROTECTING THOSE HOMES MUCH EASIER. ONCE AGAIN, THE IMPORTANCE OF PROPER VEGETATION CLEARANCE CAN NOT BE OVER STATED.
