NATIONAL CITY — Firefighters are working to extinguish a fire at a retirement home on South Highland Avenue near East 25th Street tonight, officials said. According to a Heartland fire dispatcher, the call came in at approximately 6:40 p.m. and eight fire vehicles were sent to the blaze. Information regarding injuries or the amount of damage caused by the flames was not immediately available.
