On Thursday, January 28, 2009, at 21:52, three engine companies of Bullhead City Firefighters and two rescue ambulances responded to a reported house fire at 1918 Artesia Drive under the command of Battalion Chief Greg Raymond.
This residence was an older double-wide mobile home with an add-on work shop and a wood ramada covering the entire structure. Reporting party advised dispatch the male owner was still inside.
Arriving firefighters found heavy smoke and fire. The crew from Engine 61 aggressively made entry into the residence to attack the fire. The fire was too intense for firefighter safety to attack inside. The firefighters backed out and the fire became defensive operation. Crews surrounded the fire with attack lines to fight the fire and protect neighboring homes.
It was later reported to the fire department that the occupant had self evacuated and was found down the street uninjured. Fire crews were on the scene for several hours putting out hotspots due to the construction of a ramada on top of the mobile home. There were no injuries to any fire service personel.
Fire Investigator John Jones was called to the scene. This was a very hot fire with heavy damage to the interior. The investigator did determine the fire appears to be accidental, but the investigation is continuing for the precise cause.
