El Monte – Firefighters needed 37 minutes to knock down a second-alarm fire that heavily damaged a strip mall in El Monte on Monday night.
The fire at 11010 E. Lower Azusa Road, near Santa Anita Avenue, broke out at 6 p.m., according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department supervisor.
No injuries were reported.
For a brief while, nearby residential areas were evacuated as the fire ripped through the strip mall’s roof.
