North Park gas leak prompts evacuations

SAN DIEGO — Firefighters were called to North Park Thursday morning after a trash truck hit and broke a gas line.

The leak was reported just before 7 a.m. in an alley behind Idaho Street near Adams Avenue, a dispatcher with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said.

A few homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution.

All but one of the emergency crews were released by 8 a.m.. One crew remained behind to wait for crews from SDG&E to arrive, the dispatcher said.
