SACRAMENTO, CA – Sacramento Metro Fire District has battled 32 arsons since last Thursday — and even though the lead arson investigator is so busy he’s has only slept three hours during his 48-hour shift, a spokesman said the arsons are not straining department resources.
Despite the heavy load, fire crews have been running between arsons and still responding to other emergencies, Sac Metro Fire Capt. Christian Pebbles said.
“They really haven’t been taxed on this. A lot of these fires are what we call nuisance fires…trash dumpsters, garbage cans, They’re just a drag to have to continue to go out to these when we know they’re accidental, when we know they’re not deliberately set,” Pebbles said.
North Highlands resident Lori Scarborough said she’s concerned after an arsonist set a fire that burned dangerously close to her and her daughter on El Campo Way.
“How far will are they going to go? We have to stop them. These people have got to all be stopped,” Scarborough said.
The fire burned up to a gas meter. A neighbor spotted the fire and called authorities before anyone was hurt.
