The Stockton Fire Department responded to two structure fires Thursday and Friday.
Deputy Fire Chief Paul Willette said that at about 6:35 p.m. Friday, fire crews were called to the 3900 block of Village Green Drive, where a second-story unit in a two-story apartment complex was reportedly on fire.
Firefighters discovered a stove-top fire that had been largely contained by sprinklers. There was an estimated $15,000 in fire, smoke and water damage both to the first unit and to the one below, Willette said, and two residents were forced to move to other units.
The earlier fire started at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the garage of a home in the 2100 block of White Forge Court. The fire, possibly caused by discarded smoking materials, spread to a car. The homeowner attempted to control the fire with an extinguisher but was forced from the garage by smoke.
Willette said the fire caused about $5,000 in damage to the car and another $5,000 to the garage.
