The Bullhead City Fire Department is announcing a brand new program for High School students 14 to 18 years old. The new Fire Explorer Program is a youth oriented introduction to the fire service.
Many young students are not sure of where they want to head after High School.
“The Explorer Program allows students to “explore” the fire service as a possible career’, said Program Coordinator and Firefighter/Paramedic Stu Downing.
“We want to off the training that allows young men and women to really see what goes on in the fire department.”
Qualifying students will train with the firefighters understanding the responsibilities of a firefighter on fire scenes, traffic collision and medical calls.
They will also understand the role of the fire department in the community with strong focus on community involvement and educational opportunities.
“Many of the firefighters are exciting to share their experience with young minds that want to understand exactly what the job entails’ says Dowling. “The firefighters will be assisting with training the new explorers.”
Training will include Fire Suppression, Fire Prevention, Hazardous Materials, Technical Rescue, Swift Water and Dive Rescue, Emergency Scenes, and Wildland Firefighting. Once the explorers are trained, there could be opportunities to assist firefighters with the abilities.
Application are available in the fire department website; www.bullheadfire.org. Applications will be accepted at Fire Station One at 1260 Hancock road now through February 8th. Questions can be directed to Dowling by calling 758-3971.
