Three college students inside a single-story home in San Jose escaped without injuries Monday after fire engulfed their house.
Damage was estimated at $50,000 to $60,000.
Firefighters received reports of smoke coming from the roof at the Morrill Avenue home near Via Montez about 2:25 p.m. When fire crews arrived just minutes later, nearly half of the attic was in flames.
Within 25 minutes, however, the fire was contained, with most of the damage confined to the roof and attic as well as damage inside the home, said San Jose fire Capt. Rob Brown.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
