Vehicle Fire Threatening a Building Date/Time of Incident: August 14 – 12:58 p.m. Incident Location: 00 Block of College Dr. (general location-100 block) Cause: Undetermined Injuries: (general) None Number of Personnel: 11

Fire Equipment: 2 Engines, 1 Truck, 1 Battalion Chief

Agencies Involved: Ventura Fire Department, Ventura Police Department

Damage Estimate: $3,000 Structure, $3,000 Contents, $10,000 Vehicle

Narrative: Ventura Firefighters responded to reported vehicle fire. Enroute to the location, the 911 call center received numerous additional calls reporting the adjacent apartment building was threatened with flames directly contacting the building. Upon the arrival of the first-due engine,

firefighters initiated a rapid attack on the vehicle fire and were able to suppress the flames. Incoming crews assisted with evacuation of the 6 unit, 2 story building and assessed the structure for extension of the flames into the framing of the building and attic area. One unit sustained moderate smoke damage due to an open window downwind. Several vinyl windows were melted/damaged and the building also sustained charring to the exterior.

After the building was deemed safe and inhabitable, the building was released to the owner. No tenants were displaced as a result of this incident. The cause of the car fire was undetermined due to the extensive burn damage to the vehicle. Ventura Police were on scene assisting with evacuation and traffic control.
