Chico Firefighters Will Spend All Night At “Mile Fire” In Bidwell Park

Firefighters from as far away as Napa will be on duty in Chico’s Upper Bidwell Park overnight after a fast-moving fire burned 15-20 acres Sunday afternoon. Firefighters referred to it as The Mile Fire, due to the close proximity to Five Mile Recreation Area.

The fire broke out around 3:45 p.m. near Five Mile Recreation Area and Hooker Oak Park on Chico’s east side. Residents living on nearby Centennial Avenue were under mandatory evacuation until the flames were contained.
