A large vegetation fire erupted Tuesday afternoon near the Mariposa County community of Hornitos, CalFire reported.
The blaze, referred to as the “Gaines Fire,” was first reported around 12:45 p.m. near Mount Gaines Road and Hornitos Road, northwest of Catheys Valley, and has burned around 500 acres, according to CalFire’s web site.
