Two vacant houses burned in latest string of fires in Chico

Two abandoned homes within a mile of each other were engulfed by flames during a three-hour-period Tuesday and Wednesday, the most recent fires in a rash being investigated by the Chico Fire Department.

Cal Fire-Butte County was sent to a blaze at 970 Ohio St. just before midnight Tuesday, where they found 30-foot flames consuming an abandoned house and threatening neighboring homes, said Battalion Chief David Hawks.
