900 acres burned along I-5 and 4,800 acres near Quincy

Crews are making significant progress against a wildfire along Interstate 5 near Lake Shasta.

The Salt Creek fire has consumed 900 acres and forced the evacuation of about 100 homes since it began Wednesday near the community of Lakehead, about 15 miles north of Redding.

Officials say the blaze was 70 percent contained Friday night and was not expected grow further, thanks to higher humidity and calmer winds. Full containment is expected Sunday.
