he president of the union representing Hemet firefighters did not speak at Tuesday night’s council meeting when the City Council voted 3-2 to seek outside fire service bids.
“We are allowing our residents” to do the talking, Steve Sandefer said before the meeting.
Talk they did, urging the council not to send out a Request for Proposals. Some said they don’t trust that the cash-strapped state government will provide the kind of service that the Hemet Fire Department provides. Some even voiced fear that fire stations in Hemet would be closed.
