Lawmakers blast National Park Service for letting Reading Fire burn

Rachael Parker’s lodge was hurt by last summer’s Reading Fire in Lassen Volcanic National Park, even though she was miles from flames that torched 28,000 acres and cost $15 million to battle.

Parker testified Wednesday during an informal hearing at the state Capitol before two members of Congress that she lost thousands of dollars in business because of the National Park Service’s decision not to extinguish it while it was small.
