Alameda Firefighters and Oakland Raiders raise over $1,000 for local charity.

MOWCheckPresentationAlameda Firefighters IAFF Local 689 has teamed up with the Oakland Raiders to support Alameda Meals on Wheels. With the proceeds from group ticket sales and generous donations from Alameda citizens, the Firefighters and the Raiders were able to donate $1001.00 to Alameda Meals on Wheels.

Your Alameda Firefighters participate in many charitable activities throughout the year. Those events include a “Fill the Boot†for MDA and the Annual Pancake Breakfast to benefit the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation. They have recently hosted a Firefighter’s Pumpkin Patch and Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway, and are currently assisting with the Alameda Food Bank’s holiday needs as well as with the Local Red Cross’ Toys for Tots program.

Alameda Firefighters Offer Rebuttal to Report

fire-37Alameda firefighters have issued a 19-page rebuttal to an 81-page report about the Alameda Fire Department that the city received in May. The city commissioned the International City/County Manage-ment Association to operationally assess both the police and fire departments. In their rebuttal, the firefighters have focused on statements that the firefighters call “at least, misleading, and, at most, blatantly incorrect.” “Each has the potential to do irreparable harm to the Alameda Fire Department and must be addressed,” the rebuttal says.The firefighters have divided their 25 responses into seven categories. These include the executive summary; administration and finance; emergency medical services; fire prevention, public education and employee education; staffing and buildings and an outcome-focused department.
