A firefighter who was injured in a carport blaze is expected to return to work next week, Fire Department officials said Friday.
The firefighter suffered second-degree burns on his hands Thursday when he grabbed a metal post on a chain link fence to get into Costa Mesa’s Corp. Yard, 2310 Placentia Ave., said Battalion Chief Bill Kershaw.

The Ventura County Fire Department will conduct live fire training exercises today in Moorpark.
A structure at 6151 Gabbert Road will be burned to allow firefighters to train under realistic conditions. The training was postponed in December because of the heavy rains.
“This kind of training is invaluable for firefighters,” said Ventura County Training Capt. Dan Preston. “Our firefighters train almost constantly, but a drill where they can learn about fire behavior and experience the heat and smoke conditions they will encounter during an actual emergency is a tremendous opportunity.” Continue reading Firefighters will burn Moorpark house as training exercise
