The accident occurred on the 5300 block of Shoreline Drive, near Patterson Ave.
The two vehicles crashed into each other about 2 p.m., according to the fire department, sending an SUV skidding off the road and into a drainage ditch.
The man suffered moderate injuries.
It took firefighters 50 minutes to pull the man from wreckage.
The California Highway Patrol also responded to the scene.
LAKE FOREST – Two people were injured after a crash on the Lake Forest Drive off-ramp to the northbound 5 freeway 5, jamming westbound traffic to Lake Forest Drive.
The crash, involving a Toyota Sienna and a Chrysler 300, was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 10:22 a.m. The Sienna overturned on Lake Forest Drive.

Six people are dead and three are hospitalized in serious condition after a pre-dawn crash early this morning involving a Greyhound bus and two vehicles on Highway 99 in Fresno.
The driver of the Greyhound bus, which had just left the Fresno Greyhound terminal en route to Madera, died. A male and female bus passenger were killed, as were all three people in a Chevrolet Trailblazer that the bus struck on the highway.
CHP officer Axel Reyes said the collision was triggered about 2:14 a.m. when the dark-blue Trailblazer overturned in the highway’s northbound fast lane and came to rest on its side. LA PUENTE — High speed and alcohol played a part in the cause of horrific high speed crash Tuesday evening that left at least one person dead and 5 other people badly injured in east Los Angeles County.
The accident happened just around 7:00 P.M. on East Valley Blvd, a narrow, two lane road between the cities of La Puente and the City of Commerce.

The Metro Blue Line tracks in South Los Angeles were temporarily blocked Friday morning while firefighters rescued a woman trapped in a car that collided with a big rig.
Her condition was unknown. The accident occurred about 7 a.m. at 48th Place and Long Beach Avenue, said Shawn Lenske of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

GARDEN GROVE – A crash between a Disposal Service trash truck and a black Nissan Altima shut down the Haster Street off-ramp, according to police.
The crash occurred at 9:32 a.m. at the intersection of Haster Street at Lampson Avenue. The driver of the Altima was taken to UCI Medical Center. NEWPORT BEACH – Three people were sent to the hospital after a multivehicle crash on Von Karman Avenue and Campus Drive, according to fire authorities.
The Orange County Fire Authority and Newport firefighters were on scene after the crash was reported at 8:16 a.m. Newport Beach and Irvine police also responded.

LAS VEGAS — Metro police have identified the woman who was killed after her truck crashed into a stage at Fremont Street on Tuesday.
Police said Sara Dominguez, 79, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. They said she was driving a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck at 2:24 p.m. when the crash occurred on Third Street, north of Carson Avenue, in downtown Las Vegas. Fairfield firefighters and Medic Ambulance crews moved an unidentified 22-year-old Vacaville man to an ambulance Tuesday following a vehicle accident.
Police said that, shortly after 10:30 a.m., the driver was headed north on Solano Foothills Drive when his 1987 Toyota pickup drifted off the road, knocked down a tree and privacy fence, and then crashed into the side of a residence in the 2300 block of Sanctuary Drive. SAN FRANCISCO — Several people were injured early this morning in a crash involving a San Francisco Municipal Railway bus, a fire lieutenant said.
Firefighters responded to reports of a Muni bus crashed near 18th and De Haro streets just after midnight, San Francisco fire Lt. Ken Smith said.
An inbound Polk-19 bus apparently collided with a small truck in the intersection, sending the bus coach off the roadway into some bushes, Smith said. Initial reports that a bus coach overturned were not accurate.
Nine people were injured and needed medical attention at the scene, Smith said.
Seven of the injured were taken to a hospital with moderate injuries, Smith said, including the driver of the bus coach. The driver of the truck suffered serious injuries.
Muni officials and the San Francisco Police Department are jointly investigating the cause of the crash.
