An Oakland firefighter was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon by an explosion that occurred as he was battling a vehicle blaze on Redding Street.

OAKLAND — Nine people have lost their homes after an accidental fire today, a fire official said.
Shortly before noon, a person knocked on the door of Oakland Fire station No. 5 and told firefighters a home at 34th Street and San Pablo was on fire down the street, fire officials said.
Capt. Bob Nylander said the cause of the fire was accidental, but he declined to elaborate.

OAKLAND, CA (KGO) — An unexpected discovery was made on Tuesday in Oakland’s Chinatown. They found up to 400 marijuana plants with a street value of as much as $100,000 or more.
The plants were found in the back of a printing business by a city fire marshal who just happened to be doing a routine inspection in the neighborhood.
The pot was discovered right next door to an elementary school.
The printer, his wife, and her brother were all arrested. They claim to have permits to grow medical marijuana.
Alameda Firefighters IAFF Local 689 has teamed up with the Oakland Raiders to support Alameda Meals on Wheels. With the proceeds from group ticket sales and generous donations from Alameda citizens, the Firefighters and the Raiders were able to donate $1001.00 to Alameda Meals on Wheels.
