Cal Fire Volunteer Firefighter Pat Hinds got five star delivery service to his award ceremony at the Tulare County Fair. But he didn’t get there by limo or fire truck, Hinds arrived in an ambulance.

BONNY DOON — The 6-foot fall caused by a branch bouncing off the ground and striking the ladder he was standing on was not as much of a concern for Ted Fairbanks as was the running chain saw he was holding the day he fractured his pelvis.
Fairbanks, a Bonny Doon volunteer firefighter, was in the middle of a tree-cutting project July 19 in Bonny Doon as a side job for a friend and fellow volunteer firefighter. He was trimming overgrown bushes and branches with a chain saw to reduce fire danger when he was caught off-guard by a falling limb that knocked him off the ladder. ROCKLIN, CA — Zachary Smith, a Rocklin firefighter paramedic, returned Sunday from ten days of volunteer service in Haiti with Team Rubicon.
Team Rubicon is a self-financed, all-volunteer, rapid response, medical rescue team.
The former Marines, soldiers, firefighters/EMTs, medics, and nurses of Team Rubicon are all unpaid. The group of selfless volunteers from all over the country organized themselves within hours to give immediate response to the injured in Haiti before the Red Cross and military could arrive with help.
