This video demonstrates another option for cutting a vertical ventilation hole on a steep pitched roof. A Firefighter is cutting through the ridge in order to create a vent hole. San Bernardino City Firefighters (CA) call this method “Cutting through the ridge” or “Cutting out the ridge”.

This Video has become a topic of discusion on CTFire-ems.com a Ct fire forum. I am hoping to be able to get some questions answered and any thoughts on this method. Have alot of steep roofs in my city and this looks like it could work for us. How much of the integrity of the roof changed while making this cut? What is the normal size of the hole made? How often is this cut used. Thanks for any help anyone might be able to be
