HENDERSON, Nev. — A man is dead after police said he set his apartment on fire and then killed himself. They said it happened Wednesday afternoon at the Remington Canyon Apartments at 1000 American Pacific Drive in Henderson.
Henderson police said when they showed up, the man’s apartment was already on fire and he was on his balcony with a gun. Police said they tried to talk to the man, but it did not stop him from shooting himself.

I like to get some more information on this fire. It’s hard sometimes to get the full picture of what the strategy and tactics were on a fire from a partial view of video footage. From a learning perspective I would like someone from Henderson F.D. to comment on this fire if they would please. From the video I saw that there were too Truck Company’s on the roof. But it’s hard to tell if they were attempting a trench operation or not. I saw one truck company to the left of the screen cutting a hole to the far left what I assume is the A/B side of the structure. What was the purpose of cutting a hole there rather then cutting a hole over the seat of the fire which looked like it was in the center of the second floor? Second, it looked like the truck company’s re-grouped and was going to start a trench operation on either side of the fire cutting off its progress. Was that the plan and did it happen? If so that would have been awesome to see.
The one thing that puzzled me the most however is the hose stream that the I.C. called for over the radio to be placed through the window in the center of the structure from the exterior. What was the purpose for that? Was there a problem making entry or was the P.D. holding you guys back because of the circumstances, was there an enterer crew up there already? These questions are not to put the Henderson F.D. on the spot by any means. I just am trying to get another perspective on fire ground strategy and tactics.
Sincerely, Scuba
Hey man, SCUBA don’t worry. I do not think that you are spotting anybody. You are just looking for the reason behind a hoseline getting sprayed through a window.
STEAM BURNS!!!!!
Ouch!!
But maybe the crews never even went in due to the suspicious circumstances. If they guys offed himself, then maybe there was a trap set for firefighters.
Hey, one never knows what is out there.
Maybe one of our West Coast 911 Firefighter members from Las Vegas can help us out with this one.
