Sacramento Area Firefighters Kept Busy with Water Accidents

Earlier Saturday, rescuers were called to the American River near the Howe Avenue boat ramp. City fire officials said the 20-year-old victim — who wasn’t wearing a life jacket and couldn’t swim — lost his footing in the water at about 6:15 p.m.Bystanders found the 20-year-old victim underwater, Doucette said in a release. They got him to shore and performed CPR.The man was taken to a hospital in grave condition, Doucette said.

About an hour earlier, two boats collided on the Sacramento River. No one was injured, but both boats had to be towed back to shore.

On the American River at about 4:15 p.m., a man in his mid- to late-50s was trying to swim across the river at Sailor Bar when he went under.Some children passing by on a raft went into the water and pulled the man out, park rangers said, saving the man’s life.He was alert when he taken to UC Davis Medical Center is expected to be fine.
