On May 21, 2008 at 1543, Las Vegas firefighters responded to calls for a structure fire in the 500 block of Maryland Parkway. According to witnesses, the occupant of an upstairs apartment was working on wall electric outlet, he said it flashed and caught fire, the outlet electricity was on.
Fire traveled up the wall and caught an upstairs unit bedroom on fire and gutted the room. There was smoke damage throughout the rest of the unit. The downstairs unit also had water damage and electricity was shut off due to the fire.
One occupant suffered a minor burn on the leg. The American Red Cross is helping those who were displaced. Damage is estimated to be $20,000.
