A two-alarm fire gutted a home on Hill Road in Novato on Tuesday, displacing a family of seven. No one was hurt. Novato firefighters responded to a call at 1628 Hill Road at 8:53 a.m. and arrived at 8:59 a.m. to see the home “fully involved,” said Sandy Wargo, a spokeswoman for the Novato Fire Protection District.

Police and firefighters evacuated the house and sounded a second alarm at 9:04 a.m. The fire was contained at 9:21 a.m. Hill Road was closed for more than an hour.

Jeremy Jackson, 18, said he woke up to “yelling and screaming” and saw smoke and flames coming from the kitchen. Police arrived first and were able to help Jackson, his sister, his mother, his aunt, his grandfather and two other relatives escape from the house.
Damage is estimated at $250,000.
