Basin Complex Fire still burns in Los Padres

Nearly 1,500 more acres burned in Los Padres National Forest late Thursday and Friday, boosting the Basin Complex Fire to 129,840 acres by late Friday. Firefighters continued to tamp down the fire with controlled burn operations, and the fire was 70 percent contained by late Friday, up about 5 percent from Thursday.

Burn-outs were conducted off Carmel Valley Road southeast of Chews Ridge, and east of Devil’s Peak heading toward Los Padres dam, said a fire spokeswoman.

An evacuation order in the Carmel Valley Road area between Martin and Piney Creek roads was downgraded from mandatory to voluntary early Friday. Parts of Tassajara and Cachagua roads remained under voluntary evacuations.
