Cause of fire: Under investigation, appears it started in the kitchen

Description of damage: Fire damage in kitchen and attic, rest of house moderate smoke.
General information about the incident: Elderly lady lives alone in home, was home in bed. Called daughter, who lives in another home, and told her she was choking on smoke. Daughter called 9-1-1 and reported the fire. Firefighters had to force entry into the house and found it full of thick smoke. Woman was found at end of smoke filled hallway leading to bedrooms banging on one of the bedroom doors as though she was trying to get into the room.
Firefighters said that smoke alarms in the house were working. Woman was brought out by firefighters and treated for smoke inhalation. She was taken to University Medical Center for further treatment.
Carbon monoxide and smoke levels in the home were lethal. Cause of the fire is under investigation, appears it started in the kitchen, not on the stove, and extended up into attic area.
