Modesto Fire Severely Damges Home

October 12, 2008

A two-alarm fire heavily damaged a northeast Modesto home and displaced a family of four Friday morning, fire officials said.

The family made it out safely before firefighters arrived, and no injuries were reported.

Modesto Fire Battalion Chief Hugo Patino said the blaze began shortly before 10 a.m. in a backyard shed near swimming pool equipment at the two-story house in the 2500 block of Boston Way, just west of Roselle Avenue and south of Floyd Avenue.

The flames spread to the home’s exterior, raced up toward the roof and went into the wall before reaching the attic and engulfing the back of the home, Patino said. About 30 firefighters responded.

Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 30 minutes. Patino said the fire caused some heat damage to a vacant house next door.

The flames destroyed most of the back of the house, causing about $150,000 in damage, Patino said.

The cause of the fire had not been determined Friday night.
