SHERMAN OAKS – A Los Angeles Fire Department engine was rear-ended Sunday on the 405 Freeway while responding to another incident, causing a SigAlert, California Highway Patrol officials said.
No one was injured.
Firefighters were at the scene of an overturned vehicle at the side of the southbound 405 near the westbound 101 Freeway interchange when their engine was struck by another vehicle at 7:45 a.m., CHP Officer Anthony Martin said.
The type of vehicle that hit the engine was not known, he said. The collision caused traffic to back up on the 405 until all vehicles were cleared by 9:30 a.m.
Martin said the cause of the crash was not known, although recent rain may have made conditions more dangerous with the possibility of oil on the road.
