Los Angeles Firefighters perform physical rescue in Mid City District

On Thursday, January 1, 2009 at 1:45 AM, 5 Companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, 8 LAFD Rescue Ambulances, 3 EMS Battalion Captains, 1 Battalion Chief Officer Command Team and the CHP, under the direction of Battalion Chief Mark Saxelby, responded to a Physical Rescue assignment at the Eastbound I-10 Freeway at Normandie Av. in the Mid-City.

Firefighters responded to reports of a traffic collision on the eastbound I-10 Freeway. As CHP officers arrived on scene they found a single car traffic with rollover. A quick assessment indicated the incident had 5 critical patients, 2 had been ejected from the vehicle and 2 needing extrication. As Firefighters arrived on scene, patients were triaged utilizing the START system. The incident quickly expanded to a multi casualty incident.

The patients were quickly extricated from the vehicle, treated and transferred to awaiting rescue ambulances within minutes. All patients were transported to area hospitals.
