The Fresno County Fire Protection District board will consider billing the insurance companies of people who live outside its district and get into vehicle crashes requiring its services.
Since residents of the district turned down a benefit assessment last year to fund fire station staffing, the district has been seeking new ways to raise revenue. Most district services are currently paid for with property tax revenue.
The district, covering 2,600 square miles of Fresno County and 150,000 residents, will charge exactly what its services cost.
