Stockton to close stations, lay off firefighters

STOCKTON – To cut another $6 million from its budget for next year, the Stockton Fire Department is preparing to close stations, demote captains, cut on-duty staffing and, possibly, lay off firefighters. The proposal was broadly described in a memorandum sent by Fire Chief Ron Hittle to his staff late last week.

Rialto Firefighters Discover Body in House Fire

Fifteen Rialto and Colton firefighters came to the home in the 100 block of North Pine Avenue at 3:45 a.m. and spotted fire coming through the roof. A man was found dead inside. The fire was extinguished in 20 minutes. The 1,200-square-foot home received about $150,000 damage.

Stockton Firefighters Respond to WareHouse Fire

A warehouse in Stockton burned to the ground Tuesday during a blaze that sent smoke so high, it could be seen from Sacramento. A large, dark plume of smoke and burning embers were seen from the fire, which is burning in the 5100 block of Fyffe Avenue.
