Guns-N-Hoses Submission Grappling League has Successful Debut

March 2, 2009

Last Saturday’s successful debut of the Guns-N-Hoses Submission Grappling League. Over 870 attendees packed No-Limits MMA to watch this classic show down Battle-of the-Shields in Irvine, CA.

A seasoned LAPD Centurion Team, led by coach Mark Mireles & manager Scott Dewitt, took to the mat first. Team OCFA was ushered in by Coach Ken Gabrielson shortly afterwards. After a wonderful rendition of the Star-Spangled-Banner by San Bernardino City Firefighter Jason Serrano, and tribute to LAPD’s Fallen Swat Officer Randy Simmons – the grapplers took to the mat and left nothing behind!

Submissions by OCFA’s Brett Russell, Pete Malgoza, and Eric Weave proved to be crucial in the TEAM OCFA victory over a deep LAPD team. The Centurion’s rallied in the final rounds thanks to a strong performance by Alberto Franco.

The highly anticipated marquee event featuring former UFC champ, current LAPD Officer, Phillip Miller and World Ranked BJJ Grappler Aza Fuller didn’t disappoint fans! Despite giving-up 20 pounds to his competitor, and recently recovering from the Flu – Phillip Miller proved he still had his grappling game and dominated his opponent from the opening bell onwards.

Special thanks to the teams for their demonstration of class and good sportsmanship. The teams entered into the arena as competitors and parted as brothers!

San Bernardino Fire All Stars vs. Palm Springs PD – June 2009
