Fire Guts Five Stockton Homes

April 17, 2009

stockton4bFire at a farm labor housing complex in east Stockton on Thursday ruined five homes and put 22 people out, but no one was injured, officials said.

Firefighters for two hours trucked water from a well to the complex, on Kaiser Road near Collegeville.

The Red Cross met residents of the burned homes in a field across the road.

“Everything’s gone,” said Ann Reyes, who watched one firefighter break a window of her apartment and another train a hose on the roof. “We’ve lost everything.”

Seven agencies responded to the blaze shortly after 8 a.m. in engines and seven water tenders, Collegeville Fire Protection District Chief Dennis Faist said.

The fire’s cause was being investigated, Faist said. He did not suspect arson.
