An early morning house fire Tuesday left two Vallejo firefighters injured and caused an estimated $100,000 in damage to a Pennsylvania Street home, fire officials said.
The home’s two occupants – married renters – escaped without injury, Vallejo Fire Department spokesman Bill Tweedy said.
The fire, which started at about 1:26 a.m. behind the couple’s bed, was ignited by a short in an electrical outlet, Tweedy said.
The fire was contained by 1:50 a.m., but firefighters remained on scene until just after 5 a.m., Tweedy said.
One firefighter suffered leg injuries and was treated on the scene by fire department paramedics. A piece of wood debris lodged in the eye of a second firefighter, who was taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center-Vallejo, where he was treated and released, Tweedy said.
As a precaution, officials evacuated a nearby apartment complex that was threatened by the fire, Tweedy said.
