Illegal Burn Sparks Attic Fire in Bullhead City

bullheadOn Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at 1300, the Bullhead City Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 942 Turney Drive.  Arriving engines observed light smoke from the eves indicating a possible attic fire.  Firefighters aggressively made entrance to the garage and an attic crawl space.  Light smoke was found but no active flames.  Using the Thermal Imaging Camera crews found excessive heat in the south west corner of the attic space.  Crews quickly moved into the residence and cut a access holes in the ceiling and walls to extinguish the fire.bullhead 2 Further overhaul was performed down the wall where the fire had started from burning weeds. This fire was started by the renter using a weed burner in the yard on the west side of the residence.  The weeds were against a chain link fence and the west wall of the home.  While illegally burning the weeds against the home the flames reached inside of the exterior wall and climbing into the attic.  The Bullhead City Police Department did cite the renter for illegal burning.  There is no burning in the City limits. The American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the family with housing needs.  The family’s food and clothing were not harmed in this fire.
