A fire in a seventh-floor apartment in San Bernardino caused an estimated $13,000 damage Tuesday, a fire official said. The blaze, reported about 11:50 a.m. at the eight-story Meadowbrook Towers apartment complex in the 100 block of West Second Street, was confined to the kitchen of one apartment, said San Bernardino fire Battalion Chief Eric Esquivel. Firefighters arrived at 12:03 p.m. and found dense smoke in the apartment, he said.
The residents already had knocked down the flames with fire extinguishers, Esquivel said. No one was hurt. The apartment sustained about $3,000 in structural damage and about $10,000 in damage to the contents. It was the third time in recent weeks that firefighters have responded to fires at Meadowbrook, he said.
The cause of Tuesday’s fire remains under investigation, he said. Fire officials called in three alarms on the blaze because of the potential for spread in the multistory building. Some residents were evacuated to apartments across the street.
