Two firefighters injured after flammable solvent leak in Commerce

November 7, 2009

COMMERCE – Two firefighters suffered minor injuries on Friday at a rail yard in Commerce where several hundred gallons of a flammable solvent leaked from a 5,000-gallon tank on a rail car, fire officials said.

The leak was reported about 6:30 a.m. in the 4000 block of Sheila Street, said county fire Inspector Matt Levesque.

Crews worked to clean up the liquid, which was still leaking from a valve about five hours later, said Inspector Steve Zermeno.

The firefighters were treated at a hospital and released, Zermeno said.
