Salinas Firefighter Injured in Vehicle Explosion

SALINAS, Calif. – A Salinas firefighter was injured Saturday following an explosion inside a motorhome parked along Highway 101.

Fire officials say the motorhome had been making its way northbound on Highway 101 when it began experiencing trouble in south Monterey County. The driver pulled over along the highway just south of Salinas when a fire broke out inside.

Firefighters arrived on scene to help; investigators say the vehicle fire struck oxygen tanks inside which set off an explosion. The explosion struck a firefighter; his condition is unknown.
