On Friday, November 13, 2009 shortly after 11:00 pm, units of the San Jose Fire Department responded to reports of fire in a two-story, multi-unit residential occupancy at 5506 Makati Circle on the city’s south side.
Upon their arrival, firefighters were confronted with heavy fire conditions on both floors of the structure. Captain Trent Engler (Engine 35) immediately struck a second-alarm and initiated an offensive attack with crews working quickly to confirm that all residents had safely evacuated the building. Within minutes the fire burned its way through the roof forcing all personnel to vacate and transition to defensive operations.
With Truck 13 deploying an aerial master stream, and Engine 35 opening up with their deck gun, the bulk of the fire was knocked down allowing crews to resume interior operations. Preliminary indications are that four units within the building were destroyed and the remaining units suffered smoke and water damage.
There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
