Motorhome goes up in flames in Greenbrae

December 23, 2009

A fire in a Greenbrae mobile home park gutted one motorhome but was stopped before it could spread to other vehicles just a few feet away, a fire official said.

The fire broke out shortly before 2 p.m. at Marin Park at 2140 Redwood Highway, a site on the east side of Highway 101 that can accommodate nearly 90 motorhomes.

Firefighters initially received a report that people were trapped inside the motorhome, and rescuers arrived in less than three minutes to find 40-foot flames shooting out of the vehicle, said Larkspur fire Capt. Matt Cobb.

No one was found inside the motorhome, and firefighters were able to prevent the fire from reaching other recreational vehicles parked about six feet away.

“The firefighters were able to protect all of the neighboring homes,” Cobb said.

Firefighters were still investigating the cause of the fire Tuesday night, while property managers were trying to reach the motorhome’s owner.

Cobb said the fire does not appear to be suspicious and apparently started in the living area in the middle-to-rear section of the motorhome.
