SBCo Firefighters Rescue Family Pet

San Bernardino County Fire Department firefighters and technical rescue personnel safely rescued a dog that had fallen down a septic system leach hole on the evening of January 22nd in Phelan. Upon arrival crews from Phelan Station 10 were advised that the dog, a large black-haired mix breed, had fallen during a walk with its owner just outside the owner’s home. The pit, approximately 4-5 feet wide and 13 feet deepappeared to be part of the septic system in the owner’s front yard in the 9000 block of Monte Vista Rd. Members of County Fire’s Technical Rescue Team were called from Hesperia Station 301 to assist. Together the crews set up for a confined-space rescue operation, and rigged a high-angle rope system, lowering a rescuer who was then able to harness the dog before being raised back above ground. The dog was returned unharmed to athankful owner.
