Firefighters tend to palm trees reported on fire

Firefighters are investigating a fire that scorched more than a dozen trees in Rancho Mirage on Monday.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection received reports at 2:38 p.m. that 15 palm trees were on fire in the hills west of Bob Hope Drive and Highway 111.

Firefighters had to hike to the scene and a helicopter was used to extinguish the flames.
