Fire Burns About 20 Structures In Old West Ranch -Tehachapi – Evacuation Requested

The fire raging through Old West Ranch has burned about 20 structures and grown to 400 acres,and officials are asking residents to evacuate the area, according to the Kern County Fire Department. Firefighters have closed off Snowshoe Court and Snowshoe Lane in the area, and are attacking the fire with aircraft dropping water and retardant, according to unconfirmed reports from the scene. About 50 firefighters are assigned to the fire, with more in the way, according to the fire department. The fire is to the west of Blackburn Canyon, burning northwest down the canyon. The fire has heavy fuel and is creating its own wind. The fire threatens about 150 other structures. A shelter for victims of the fire has been set up at Old Jacobs Jr. High School 126 Synder Dr., Tehachapi, according to the fire department.
