Redlands police, firefighters serve at benefit

Diners at Martha Green’s Eating Room were served by police officers and firefighters Saturday night. They and police and fire explorers volunteered at the sixth annual Lights and Sirens fundraiser, which benefits Redlands Baseball for Youth’s Xtreme Team. The program gives youth who have mental or physical disabilities the chance to play organized baseball.

Victim from Chula Vista mobile home fire ID’d

A woman whose body was discovered after a fire swept through her mobile home on March 21 was identified by authorities Saturday as Neva Merrel, 84. Her name was released by the county Medical Examiner’s Office, which said Merrel died of natural causes, including heart disease, and not from the flames.
