Benicia blaze takes hours to put out

BENICIA — Firefighters battled a grass fire endangering nearby structures for more than three hours Sunday afternoon. Benicia firefighters responded to a call for grass fire at about 3 p.m. that started near the on-ramp of westbound Interstate 780 at East Fifth Street, Benicia fire Capt. Lisa Dubnoff said.

130-acre Squaw Valley fire 70% contained

A grass fire west of Squaw Valley that ignited Sunday night and has burned more than 130 acres is 70% contained, fire officials said this morning. Firefighters expect to have full control of the fire on Porter Avenue north of Highway 180 by Tuesday morning, Fresno County fire spokesman John Dominguez said.

VISTA: Firefighters battle back yard fire, bees

VISTA – Firefighters battled a fire sparked Saturday by a malfunctioning lawn mower in the backyard of a house on Olive Avenue, authorities said.
