Austin and Sarah Hardage’s home is burned to its foundations – the sad aftermath of an early-morning conflagration that raged through an area of southwest Reno. But in a twist that played out time and time again across the 2,000-acre fire, neighboring houses on either side were untouched by flames.

Firefighters were battling a blaze that tore through a four-story apartment building in Berkeley late Friday. Firefighters from at least two different counties were in Berkeley to battle the four-alarm blaze at Telegraph Avenue and Haste Street.

Eureka and Humboldt firefighters are collecting toys and giving them to the Salvation Army for local distribution. Their goal each year is to distribute toys to more than 600 families. They will also be accepting donations for the fourth annual Santa for Seniors program that provides gifts for local seniors in need.
