A Monday night garage fire in Cordelia resulted in Fairfield police launching a narcotics investigation after firefighters discovered a large pot grow inside the residence, officials reported.
The fire started shortly before 9 p.m. in the 1900 block of Dawnview Place, after a problem with an electrical box being used to power the lights used to grow the marijuana plants, authorities said.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the garage area. Those inside the home fled as soon as fire personnel arrived, said Fairfield police Lt. Greg Hurlbut.
The fire was contained and after the flames were extinguished, Fairfield police officers were called to the scene to investigate the pot discovery. After obtaining a search warrant, officers entered the home, where they found what Hurlbut estimated to be about 1,200 marijuana plants.
No arrests have been made in the case at this time and authorities are continuing to investigate.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fairfield Police Department at 428-7300.
