Car fire ignites two central Fresno buildings

Two buildings in central Fresno caught fire Sunday evening after a car fire spread, the Fresno Fire Department said. Flames from a car on fire in an alleyway near Tyler Avenue and Diana Street spread to the two buildings around 6:45 p.m., Fresno Fire Battalion Chief Tony Escobedo said.

Hiker rescued in Holy Jim Canyon

Firefighters airlifted a hiker said to have had hypothermia after being at Holy Jim Falls Saturday afternoon. Orange County Fire Authority firefighters responded to a 4:38 p.m. call from other hikers who made the report after they hiked out of the canyon in the Cleveland National Forest, said Capt. Explosion seriously injures Oakland firefighter

An Oakland firefighter was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon by an explosion that occurred as he was battling a vehicle blaze on Redding Street. The firefighter suffered “significant” facial and oral trauma from the blast, and is undergoing surgery, said Oakland Fire Battalion Chief Melinda Drayton.
